The male Menopause - is there such a thing?
Unfortunately not!
Some Doctors have promoted the 'andropause' - meaning a time when male hormone levels fall off very suddenly. But in reality, hormone levels in men decline very, very gradually over several decades. So a man's hormone output is most unlikely to drop off suddenly in his forties
Finally the word 'menopause' actually means 'stopping of the periods'. So, its really not possible for a man to have them!
Helping you to understand the menopause
For each woman, the menopause is a unique experience. The physical changes in the body can be described thus. Women's ovaries produce less hormones and the body's metabolism must adjust to a lower oestrogen level. During this natural time of change, most women experience changes in the way they look and feel.
Ymea has researched the area in 2006, and you will be relieved to know that women in general are aware of the effects that the menopause ‘experience’ can have on men. A few quotes include:
"Normally I'm a calm, placid, chilled out person but now I'm unbearable! I could quite happily kill! I have road rage, every rage, bad language, all the things I've never had before"

"It's not black & white like having a cold and you know how to treat it. You keep
asking yourself is this the menopause or is it just me being miserable."
Sutton Coldfield research group
"I tend to worry more now, I'm more sensitive than before when I used to take things in my stride"
