Ymea > What does it do?

While some women choose to supplement their declining estrogen levels with hormone replacement therapy (HRT), others have discovered the benefits of phytoestrogens, natural plant estrogens.

Weaker than human estrogens, phytoestrogens balance a woman's hormone level. Like human estrogens, phytoestrogens attach themselves to the body's estrogen receptors. If a woman's estrogen level is low, phytoestrogens increase the body's estrogen level (1)
To alleviate their menopausal symptoms, many women have incorporated soy and flaxseed into their diets.

Phytoestrogens are also referred to as isoflavones.

Asian communities consume on average 20-50mg isoflavones each day compared to a western diet which provides only 2-5mg of isoflavones a day. Ymea contains 86mg of soya extract per capsule, 20% of which are isoflavones, equating to 17.2mg of isoflavones in each Ymea capsule.

Epidemiological studies surmise that Asian women's lack of menopausal symptoms is not due to genetics but, rather, to diet: studies show that Japanese women who move to the United States and assimilate to American culture and diet experience greater frequency of menopausal symptoms (2)

Soya Extract
Soya is one of the basic nutritional ingredients in Asia and research has shown that Asian women whose diet is rich in soya enjoy many health benefits compared to women in the Western world, particularly during the menopausal time. This is believed to be due to the high quantities of isoflavones, also known as phytoestrogens, found in the Soya Bean.

Hops Extract
Hops contains a natural phyto-oestrogen called 8-prenylnaringenine. This adds to the soya properties.

Bitter Melon Extract
Bitter Melon, which is included in the Ymea formulation, is an extract containing natural antioxidants. Antioxidants may neutralise excess free radicals, helping to maintain cell integrity, which in turn may help reduce the visible signs of ageing.
